Learning Partner From China

At first, I don’t know how to call 學伴, which is like a kind of body program, so I call it learning partner. In this post, I will talk about my learning partner and my viewpoint on Chinese student.

The reason I have a learning partner from China this semester is that I applied for being a learning partner last semester when I knew this project. After applying, it had to go for an interview. However, the school authorities finally decided that all the interviewees could join this project. My learning partner is from Sun Yat-sen University(中山大學) in 廣州. She is a social girl who can chat with anyone about ant topic. She always makes the atmosphere full of happiness. Because she is easy-going, she makes many friends in different department, and asks them whether they could take her to famous tourist attractions in Taiwan. She is very busy planning for everyday schedule, which I think is also the life of every Chinese exchange student. In addition to
studying, I believe most of Chinese students’ main goals in Taiwan are playing and eating.

Although they spent most of time on recreation in Taiwan, I think they must be outstanding students in their original school. Someone told me that there was a survey which showed the majority of Chinese exchange student are not recommended their friends or family to study in Taiwan, because they feel Taiwanese students are not competitive. I think it is lucky to live in Taiwan, which is free and open country; however, many people take it for granted, and don’t treasure. We students should have positive attitude towards studying and playing. In the future, we all need to compare with teenagers not only in our country but also China even the whole world.

  1. "Buddy Program", if that is what u mean. Therefore, 學伴 is called "Buddy". I would like to hav one but unfortunately didn't notice that campaign b4(and I'm friggin regretful bout that!! ) Honestly it's the vary chance that u can learn from foreigners of their culture and languages as well. I ain't sign up for that program though, I met a Japanese form one of my friends who is his buddy. I talk much with him cuz I know he definitely need some help especially in a place which is totally alien to him. Making friends helping others at the same time, what a g8 idea!!

    1. I don't know whether this program is called buddy program, which I guess is about buddy from Western country. I have no idea about it. In addition, I agree with you that it is a great chance to make friends and help others. One of the interesting point is that though I have only one buddy, I can meet lots of buddys from China on different occasions because of my buddy.

    4. Guys,
I don't want to police what you say here, and I know learning slang and lingo is fun to you. But let me clarify this:'Frigging' is not a dirty word (it's a euphemism for the f-word, making it less offensive). So saying 'frigging' here is fine. However, f-words are not allowed here, ok, everyone? If you aren't sure whether it's ok to use a certain word in a public space like this, check with me first.

  2. Dear Jia En Xie,
I also considered whether to apply for it last semester, but I quit in the end because I thought I couldn’t have so much time to accompany my buddy. (Though there are some differences between the program in NCCU and in Western country, they are very similar and almost everyone connects them together.) However, needless to say, the program is functional and beneficial to many people. I believe you must learn lots of things from foreign students, like cultures, ideas, and attitudes towards several aspects. After reading your article, I think of one news report. It says that the competiveness of students in China is much higher than ones in Taiwan, which affects our future much. That is extremely frightening, but it’s the fact. Understanding this problem, we should take our lives seriously and learn their advantages to expand our horizon. Without seeing them as our enemy, it is more important to exchange ideas with each other and get something from it. We can work hard towards this direction, and I hope you can have a good start.

  3. Buddy partners, it is a good plan to help the foreign exchanging student to get used the local live, and also help the local students to get some different experience from the foreigner, in this semester, I with my classmate had apply one plan of exchanging plan to china, maybe the last year I will in china and have a buddy to help me. Anyways, I think the young generation should challenge themselves when they still young, everyone has once life and some things will never have other chance to do it when you pass period. If you give up, only the sorrow will stick with you all the life.

  4. A buddy program sure interests lots of people including me. I always wanted a foreign partner wherever he or she is from.(Though I prefer those with blonde hair and blue eyes ><)Talking about the students in china, I have lots of experiences to share. This semester , there are lots of transfer student come from different places around the world, and I met two students from china, they are all very competitive to all of us though they are not smart while I think they must make a lot of efforts on studies. There are two girls from 北京大學and they are both majored in finance and double majoring law or chemistry something that we can not afford if we major merely one of those. Despite that, they can play violin or guitar really well!!!Needless to say, they are truly one of the superior students in china. They both come to Taiwan for vacation with only 2 credits in NCCU, they mentioned that they come to Taiwan to enjoy the freedom and the multi-talented clubs here. I asked them about the future plans, they have already set off to their targets, truly amazing. That is what i want t share.

  5. I think it's a very nice thing that NCCU has a lot of exchanged students from all over the world. However, I didn't apply for the buddy program and thus have few chances to interact with them.(perhaps another reason is that I'm quite shy to talk to them.) I still remember that on a Saturday evening, the bus taking students from the foothill(such as administration building)to our dorm was crowded with people. The door closed in front of a German student, which upset her. Therefore, I asked her whether she would like to walk uphill with me. It was my first time in university talk with foreigners. Although we spoke in Chinese all the way(because she spoke too well XD), I could never forget that experience, which was the first time I overcame my embarrassment, talking with a blond-hair, blue-eyed girl!
